COMMUNITY PROJECTS

Instructions.

Watch the explanation video to learn how to record, film and submit for the community projects. But here are the general rules to follow:

  • Make sure you sing along with one of the ‘singing parts’ videos below (and not another version of the song).

  • Film the entire song, not just the parts you’re singing. Press record when requested to on the follow along video. Incomplete videos may not be included in the final video.

  • Using your phone is absolutely fine! Selfie style (landscape or portrait) is what we’re after, but try to keep the camera still as much as possible. Just make sure you're wearing headphones when singing along with the video or the audio won't be usable.

  • Be aware that the footage is likely to be cropped so please keep anything important (ie your face!) to the middle of the frame.

  • Where possible, avoid filming with ceiling fans on.

  • Find a quiet place to record and enjoy the process! Don’t forget to smile 😊 HAVE FUN!

  • Try to look into the camera whilst singing - We appreciate this can feel odd, it helps to have the lyrics next to the camera to avoid looking down at them. Lyrics are on the video but can also be found here.

  • If possible, please name your file with your name and the date you recorded. (If you’re unable to change the file name don’t worry you can still submit)

  • Under 18’s will need to have the permission from a parent or guardian.

  • Please only submit one entry per project.

  • Try to keep the file size to less than 1GB. We have a high volume of submissions, so every little bit helps to keep our storage needs manageable.

  • Please check files before sending them through for:

    • The file plays all the way through to the end and the audio can be heard throughout.

    • There is no-one recognisable in the video that hasn’t agreed to the terms and conditions.

    • Important elements are in the centre of the frame.

    • There are no recognisable “brands” in shot. (things like small logos on t-shirts are fine, TLJ branded merch is also fine).

‘Diggy Diggy Hole’

Welcome to the Diggy Diggy Hole Community Singing Project! This is something we’re incredibly excited to be doing in collaboration with our friends at The Yogscast in support of the incredible charity event, The Jingle Jam.

Jingle Jam is an incredible charity event fronted by Yogscast that we’ve been honoured to support for the last couple of years, and we hope this coming together of communities can make something incredibly special and do some real good with the money raised.

FAQs

  • We have quite a few tools at our disposal to 'clean up' background noise. Obviously try to keep it to a minimum, but as long as the background isn't louder (or the same) as your singing, your submission will still be included

  • Absolutely! We would like everyone to participate, regardless of ability.

Singing is about expressing yourself and having fun, not about being perfect. Don't worry about not being a "good" singer, just try your best and enjoy the experience. Who knows, you might surprise yourself with how much you enjoy singing!

  • We can except almost all types of video files, formats and specs. Please ensure your audio and video are sent in together and not as separate files.

If you would like to know specifics listed below are our preferences. But if all that doesn’t mean anything to you, don’t worry, whatever you can film will be more than adequate. If we have any problems with your submission we will contact you.

    Submission preferences:

    • .mov or .mp4.

    • HD (1920x1080).

    • 25FPS or 30FPS (however most phone film in variable and this is fine)

    • Quicktime codec (absolutely not necessary)

    • Audio 48kHz Mono

  • If you're having trouble submitting, you could try switching to a different browser or restarting your computer. Sometimes that does the trick. If you're submitting on or near deadline day, the portal might slow down or give error messages because so many people are trying to use it at once. Just keep trying, and don't forget that we have a second portal available (check the main instructions for the link). If you're still stuck, hit us up on Discord or shoot us an email at community@thelongestjohns.com and we'll help you find a solution.

  • if you have any questions that the video or FAQ didn't cover, just shoot us an email at community@thelongestjohns.com or hop on over to our Discord at https://discord.com/invite/DmrBxG8. You'll find a bunch of friendly folks there who can provide some moral support too!
